Warrior cut in Budapest, District XVII

Appointment: Classic Haircut, approx. 45 min · Technique: low taper with clippers, top with scissors

The warrior cut has a low taper at the sides and nape, with longer, textured, loose hair on top. At LORINCZ Studio (Almafa utca 33, 1171 Budapest) you can book it as a Classic Haircut appointment.

What is it?

A warrior cut is essentially a low taper with a longer, heavily textured top. The top is slightly messy and matte, as if you hadn't bothered with it, while the sides and nape are short and neat. It became popular on social media as a looser, more movement-driven version of the low taper – the warrior cut Budapest guests now ask for by name.

Who does it suit?

It's best on thick, straight or wavy hair, but works with curly hair too if we keep the sides shorter. The textured top makes finer hair look fuller as well.

How we cut it

We take the sides and nape down with clippers in a low taper, gradually at the hairline. We cut the top with scissors and break it up with point cutting so it separates into pieces. We don't take the taper too high, as that would make it look like a plain undercut.

Styling at home

Towel-dry until half-dry, add sea salt spray and rough it up with a hairdryer. Finish by separating it into pieces with a little matte clay. Avoid shiny pomade – it kills the matte, loose finish.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between a warrior cut and a taper?+

A taper only refers to how the sides and nape are cut. A warrior cut is a complete haircut: a low taper with a longer, textured, loose top.

How much hair do I need on top?+

A medium-length top, so the pieces can move. If yours is shorter now, the first cut will be more subtle and the full shape grows in within a few weeks.
